Science Storytelling Workshop by The Story Collider
20 May, 12:00–1:30pm
Online
As part of the SCANZ 2026 conference, we are bringing you an online Science Storytelling workshop led by The Story Collider.
The Story Collider is a nonprofit dedicated to humanising science through personal storytelling. Founded in 2010, the organisation helps scientists, journalists, comedians, and more share true stories about how science shapes their work, identities, and lives. Through live shows, workshops, and an award-winning weekly podcast, Story Collider has brought hundreds of personal science stories to audiences around the world.
The Power of Narrative: Storytelling for Science Communication
Join the workshop to learn about the creative process and craft of effective storytelling about science. The interactive seminar explores the science and art of storytelling as a powerful tool for communicating science. Why do stories help audiences understand complex ideas? What makes a scientific story compelling? How can personal narrative build connection, trust, and curiosity about scientific work?
Participants will explore how narrative structure, emotion, and lived experience shape the way people understand information. Through low-pressure exercises and guided activities, attendees will begin developing their own stories—learning how to translate research, discovery, and scientific experience into narratives that engage, persuade, and inspire.
