This course is for anyone who wants to know more about writing and publishing scientific papers. The course will cover:

• Preparing your manuscript, including what to put in each section and how to use figures and tables effectively
• Choosing the right journal for your work
• Strategies for getting your paper past the editor and surviving the peer-review process
• The most common reasons papers are rejected by journal editors and how to avoid them

Hilary Hamnett is a forensic toxicologist at ESR. She has been working in science journals and books publishing for six years, and has handled thousands of manuscripts from submission to publication. During this time she has picked up numerous insider hints and tips for would-be authors, and runs a course on getting published in science for Victoria University of Wellington.
