2026 SCANZ conference

25-26 June (pre-conference event afternoon 24 June)

Ōtautahi Christchurch

The next SCANZ conference will be in Ōtautahi Christchurch at the University of Canterbury on 25-26th June 2026, with a pre-conference event on the afternoon of 24 June. We are also holding a pre-conference Science Storytelling online workshop 20 May, included for conference attendees and open to paid registration from non-attendees.

This is Aotearoa’s only dedicated conference for science communications professionals, students, researchers, journalists, creatives and anyone passionate about connecting communities with science.

This year’s theme is Regeneration: building a science-informed future. We’ll explore how science communication can adapt and thrive through change - from shifts across the science sector and new technologies to climate and societal challenges - while celebrating the creativity and innovation happening right here in Aotearoa. Ōtautahi Christchurch, with its powerful story of rebuilding and renewal, is the perfect setting for these conversations.

Registration

Registrations are now open until 14 June. Discounted early bird registration is available until 30 April.

PROGRAMME

The programme features two days of keynotes, panels, workshops and lightning talks covering everything from science storytelling and media to policy, community engagement and emerging tools. It includes practical insights, thoughtful discussion and plenty of opportunities to connect with science communicators in Aotearoa and beyond.
