More about our speakers
Preeti Castle
With a background in partnership development, advocacy and strategic communications, Preeti has worked across financial services, information technology, science and environment, and founded a niche consulting firm specialising in developing strategies to engage audiences with scientific and technological concepts.
As the Strategic Engagement Director at The Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI), Preeti has been instrumental in establishing the organisation as a trusted collaboration mechanism which works with industry and government end users to identify knowledge priorities, then develops collaborative, prioritised research programs with universities.
Preeti serves on several boards and is the Chair of Partnerships and International Engagement at the Australian Science Communicators.
William Peng
By day, William is the General Manager of Exhibitions and Operations at Scitech in Perth, Western Australia, where he leads teams across exhibitions, facilities, and major projects to deliver inspiring science experiences.
As dusk falls and the spreadsheets rest, William steps into his alter ego as President of the Australasian Science and Technology Engagement Network (ASTEN), where he rallies science engagement champions from across Australia and New Zealand to share ideas, spark curiosity, and maybe even change the world (one conference at a time).
Jackson Ryan
Jackson Ryan is the President of the Science Journalists Association of Australia. He specialises in non-narrative and longform science journalism and has written for publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, CNET and the ABC.
He was awarded the 2022 Eureka Prize for Science Journalism and has featured in the Best Australian Science Writing in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. He co-edited the 2024 edition with Carl Smith (and you can buy that by clicking here!)
