SCIENCE COMMUNICATION IN OUR FAR SOUTH

Picture

In February, investment advisor, philanthropist and environmentalist Gareth Morgan hired a ship and took 50 scientists, journalists and enthusiasts to New Zealand's sub-antarctic islands and Antarctica to highlight the issues facing the future of the Southern Ocean.

As the Spirit of Enderby motored south, expedition participants were treated to seminars from scientists on everything from the Antarctic toothfish industry to the impact of ocean acidification.

Along the way, the crew blogged and videoed everything, all part of a science communication project that will culminate in the publication of Gareth Morgan's upcoming book and an accompanying documentary by TV personality and Our Far South crew member, Te Radar.

In this event exclusive to SCANZ members, join scientists and science communicators who journeyed south as they relate their experiences and summarise some of the major science and environment-related issues highlighted during the voyage.
